7 best Bionic alternatives for marketing agencies in 2026

The best Bionic alternative depends on which half of the job you need. Bionic Advertising Systems is strong media planning and buying software built around the buy itself — RFPs, insertion orders, ad server trafficking, vendor reconciliation. If your actual problem is live campaign health across digital accounts, a different category of tool fits better and costs considerably less.

This comparison covers seven alternatives, what each does well, and who each suits. All pricing was checked in September 2026 and is worth re-verifying before you buy.

First: what does Bionic actually do, and what does it cost?

Bionic is media planning and buying software covering digital, TV, radio, print and OOH in one system. Its feature set centres on plan creation, RFP automation, electronic insertion orders, ad server trafficking, delivery pacing, flowcharts and vendor bill reconciliation.

It's well regarded. Bionic holds 4.7 out of 5 across 19 reviews on Capterra, with users praising breadth and support. The recurring criticism in those reviews is interface friction — reviewers describe the experience as clunky in places, note the platform is "finicky when you input data too fast", and mention long turnaround times on customisations.

The bigger consideration for most agencies is the floor. Per Bionic's own pricing page:

  • $199 per user per month
  • Minimum of 5 units — $995/month, and the page states plainly that the minimum is not flexible
  • Each unit includes 1 integration and up to $1 million in annual media spend

That's $11,940 per year before you add integrations or scale past $5M in media spend. For a five-person agency buying across broadcast and print, that's reasonable value. For a six-client digital shop, it's a lot of system for the problem.

1. PlanPulse — best for live campaign health and pacing

Best for: agencies running paid digital across multiple clients who need to catch pacing drift and setup errors early.

PlanPulse is health checking software for marketing agencies. Where Bionic is organised around executing the buy, PlanPulse is organised around what happens after the buy goes live — the gap where media plans in spreadsheets quietly stop matching what ad accounts are actually doing.

It connects Google Ads, Meta and GA4 to your media plan, then runs the checks continuously:

  • Pacing analysis comparing actual to planned spend daily, with end-of-flight projection
  • Action points that generate from the plan itself — set-up tasks dated backwards from go-live, health checks recurring weekly
  • Anomaly detection against a rolling baseline, not a fixed target
  • A daily AI briefing to Teams or email covering every client's pacing, overdue checks and anomalies
  • An AI chat agent with full context on your accounts, plus report and invoice generation

Pricing: $99/month (5 clients, 2 users), $249/month (15 clients, 5 users, GA4, anomaly detection, invoicing), $549/month (unlimited clients, white-label). Two months free annually. Full pricing.

Where it wins over Bionic: roughly a tenth of the entry cost, native live performance data from digital platforms, automated setup health checks, and AI briefing and reporting — none of which Bionic's marketing materials highlight.

Where it doesn't: PlanPulse has no RFP workflow, no insertion orders, and no vendor bill reconciliation. It isn't a traditional media buying system. If broadcast IO management is your core business, stop reading here and look at Bionic or Mediaocean.

2. Bionic Advertising Systems — best for traditional media buying workflow

Best for: agencies buying across broadcast, print and OOH who need RFP-to-invoice workflow in one place.

Covered above. Genuinely good at what it does, and the reviews back that up. The two real constraints are the $995/month hard floor and a feature set built around the buying process rather than live digital performance.

Pricing: from $995/month (5 units). No free trial, but Bionic offers a refund if you cancel after trying it.

3. Pegasus Systems — best for agency finance and WIP

Best for: mid-size to large creative, media and full-service agencies whose pain is finance, not pacing.

Pegasus Systems is finance-first agency management software. Its modules are general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliation, job costing from estimate to invoice, WIP visibility, time tracking and staff utilisation — with media booking, insertion orders and supplier invoice reconciliation attached.

It's a different category from Bionic despite the overlap. Bionic is built around the media buy; Pegasus is built around agency finances, with media as one input.

Pricing: not published. Pegasus is quote-only, and the site directs you to a sales conversation. That's a real evaluation cost — you can't size it without a call — and it usually signals a price point aimed at larger agencies.

Versus PlanPulse: different problems. Pegasus runs your books; PlanPulse watches your campaigns and raises client invoices against media spend. An agency could reasonably run both. PlanPulse does not replace a ledger system.

4. Camphouse (formerly Mediatool) — best for global campaign workflow

Best for: larger marketing teams coordinating campaigns across multiple markets.

Mediatool rebranded to Camphouse in 2023. It consolidates local and global campaign data into one platform with real-time insights, performance tracking and automated reporting, aimed at reducing fragmentation between market teams.

The emphasis is coordination at scale rather than per-account health checking, which makes it a stronger fit for international brand teams and network agencies than for an independent shop with fifteen clients.

Pricing: quote-based.

5. Basis Technologies — best for programmatic buying

Best for: agencies that need a DSP alongside planning.

Basis (formerly Centro) is enterprise software combining planning workflow with its own demand-side platform for programmatic execution. It rates 4.5/5 from 287 reviews on G2, one of the largest review bases in the category.

Notably, Basis and Bionic are largely complementary rather than competitive — Basis brings programmatic execution, Bionic brings integrated planning and buying.

Pricing: custom quote, no public rate card. Enterprise-priced.

6. Marmind — best for enterprise marketing resource management

Best for: enterprise marketing departments planning budgets and content alongside media.

Marmind is a marketing resource management platform covering campaign strategy, budget planning and content workflows. It's broader than media planning and correspondingly heavier.

Pricing: from €1,200/month per Capterra — the highest published entry point in this list.

7. Mediaocean — best for large agency networks

Best for: holding companies and large network agencies.

Mediaocean is the long-standing enterprise standard for media buying workflow at scale, with deep broadcast and print integration. It's the most capable system here and the least accessible — pricing is custom, implementation is a project, and it's overbuilt for any agency below the network tier.

Pricing: enterprise, custom quote.

What about monday.com, Asana or Smartsheet?

Software directories routinely list generic project management tools as Bionic alternatives. They aren't — and it's worth saying so plainly, because it wastes evaluation time.

Smartsheet, monday.com, Asana, Wrike, ClickUp and Trello are work management platforms. None of them connect to Google Ads or Meta, calculate pacing against a media plan, or know what an insertion order is. They'll hold a task list about your campaigns. They won't tell you a campaign is 14% over pace.

If your requirement is genuinely just task tracking, they're cheap and good. If it's media planning, they're a category error.

How to choose

Three questions settle it for most agencies.

Is your problem the buy, or what happens after it? If you're drowning in RFPs, insertion orders and vendor reconciliation across broadcast and print, that's Bionic or Mediaocean. If your campaigns go live fine but drift, and you find out late, that's PlanPulse.

Is your problem money or media? Finance, WIP and job costing point at Pegasus. Pacing, setup quality and client reporting point at PlanPulse.

What's your floor? Bionic's $995/month minimum isn't flexible. Camphouse, Basis, Pegasus, Mediaocean and Marmind are quote-based or enterprise-priced. If you want to evaluate against a real client account this week without a sales call, PlanPulse has a free start and self-serve plans from $99.
