How do you spot creative fatigue in Meta ads?
Compare each ad’s latest week with the week before. When frequency (impressions ÷ reach) is 2.5 or more and rising, and CTR has fallen 25% or more, the same people are seeing the ad more and clicking less: that is creative fatigue.
Why weekly, not daily
Frequency is impressions divided by unique reach, and reach can’t be added up across days: the same person reached on Monday and Tuesday counts once in a week but twice in two daily rows. So the checker needs a weekly breakdown to measure frequency properly.
Same rules PlanPulse uses on connected accounts
These are the thresholds PlanPulse uses to raise alerts on connected Meta accounts: at least 1,000 impressions in each week before a CTR change counts, frequency of 2.5 or more and up on last week, and CTR down 25% or more. Rankings are only judged on ads with 500+ impressions, matching Meta’s own minimum.
What to do next
Falling CTR raises CPC and CPA; see how much with the CPC and CPA calculators, and put the before and after in front of the client with the ad report generator.
How to check Meta ads for creative fatigue
- Open the Ads tab in Ads Manager. Select at least the last 14 days so there are two full weeks to compare.
- Break down by week. Choose Breakdown → By time → Week, with Impressions, Reach and Link clicks columns, plus the three ranking columns.
- Export and drop in the file. Use Reports → Export table data, then drop the CSV or Excel file into the checker.
- Act on the flags. Refresh creative or broaden the audience for fatigued ads; review below-average ads’ creative and audience fit.
Frequently asked questions
What is ad fatigue?
Ad fatigue (or creative fatigue) is when an audience has seen the same ad so often that they stop responding: frequency keeps rising while click-through rate falls, and cost per result climbs.
How do you know if a Facebook ad is fatigued?
Compare the ad’s latest week with the week before. This checker flags fatigue when weekly frequency is 2.5 or more and higher than last week, and CTR has fallen 25% or more, with at least 1,000 impressions in each week.
What frequency is too high on Meta?
There is no single number; it depends on the objective, audience size and creative. Meta notes frequency often averages 1–2 per ad set but can be much higher, and suggests changing creative or targeting if performance drops as frequency rises. That combination, not frequency alone, is what this checker looks for.
What are quality, engagement rate and conversion rate rankings?
Meta’s ad relevance diagnostics compare an ad with others competing for the same audience. Below average (bottom 35%, 20% or 10%) means it is shown less or costs more. Meta reports them for ads with at least 500 impressions.
How do I fix creative fatigue?
Rotate in new creative (a new hook, format or offer, not just a colour change), broaden or refresh the audience, or lower the budget on a small audience so frequency builds more slowly.
